Introduction And Background
Human beings are all different from each other. There are Asians who you can recognize from afar by their squinted eyes, and then there are Europeans whose accents can be differentiated. There are Africans who have a completely different body because of their genes. Needless to say, every human being is different. And they also have different types of skin. Of course, there is not a skin type for every single person on the planet but there are generally four to five different types of human skin and every individual, no matter which country he or she is from, fits into either of those categories.
The Common Types Of Human Skin
The types of human skin are explained in detail below. Give it a read and find out which type of skin you have, if you don’t already know it that is.
• Normal Skin
Normal skin is what most people have. Normal skin has a clear appearance and the color of the skin is evened out properly. It is extremely soft and often feels to be elastic if one takes the cheek in hand and grabs at it. Normal skin is said to be the perfect skin. It has no skin condition on it and it is neither too dry nor too oily. It is just perfect. Often, normal skin is also described as being ‘supple’.
• Dry Skin
The people with this type of skin suffer the most. Dry skin is not an easy skin type to bear. For one, it brings about a lot of irritation and those with dry skin often find themselves scratching their face off. It feels extremely tight and no soothing effect is produced even after washing. In fact, the condition tends to get worse after washing. Dry skin also has small flakes on it, showing dead skin cells that have stuck to the skin and need to be removed somehow. Those with dry skin should use moisturizers as much as possible because wrinkles also come faster in dry skin!
• Sensitive Skin
This type of skin is also feared and dreaded, by females especially. Sensitive skin, as you can see by the name, is sensitive. It is sensitive to the atmosphere, the temperature and most of all, it is severely affected by the sun. Sensitive skin is easily burnt even under normal exposure to the sun. Skin problems can easily arise in sensitive skin. It can get irritated easily and inflammation can occur. Redness is also seen frequently due to the slightest changes in temperature and sensitive skin, just like dry skin, is really tight. One needs to moisturize it to make sure that it does not cause any unwanted pain such as one that comes with dry scratching. However, the worst thing is the sun burn with sensitive skin. Try wearing a sun block always if you have a sensitive skin.
• Oily Skin
Oily skin is oily. Really, it is. It is probably the only skin type that does not cause any irritation. It might make you feel dirty with all the oil accumulated on different parts of the face but the skin is not tight and is often glowing because of the oil on it. This only involves the face though. Oily skin is not found on the entire body. Those who have an oily skin do not need to worry about hydrated skin and wrinkles but what they need to fear is bacteria and clogged pores which can easily lead to skin conditions such as acne vulgaris. Bacteria and dirt can easily settle on oily skin and cause problems. Therefore, cleanliness has to be maintained and it is better to wash the face more than twice a day.
• Combination Skin
This, like normal skin, is also the perfect skin type. Combination skin is the skin which not too dry and not too oily. It a perfect combination of both. Those blessed with this skin type really have nothing to fear and if they are hygienic and take good care of their skin, they will generally be known as the ones with the best skin.
Are There Any More Skin Types?
Science is a diversified subject and I’m pretty sure scientists, if they wanted to, could have created more than just five or six types of skin and all sorted into even more categories after. However, the basic ones are these.
Knowing your skin type is important. It is essential because when you know what your skin is like only then you will be able to handle it and take care of it in the proper manner. Whatever skin type you have, do not feel sad about it. If you have dry skin, moisturize. If you have oily skin, stay clean. And if you have normal skin, try not to gloat about it and pay attention to it even if you feel you don’t need to.
