DermabrasionAnother method available for acne scar removal is called dermabrasion. This method of removing scars is effective, but does take a bit longer. The principle of it is quite similar to that of laser methods. The doctor will use a wire brush or a specifically designed device that has a spinning diamond on it to perform the procedure.
The device is run over the top of scars, wearing them down. The process will remove the top levels of skin, which in effect removes the scars as well. In doing so, the body will create new cells to replace those that were removed or lost through the procedure. The new cells produced will be smoother and will without scars. This process can take a week to three weeks to see full results.
Fractional Laser TherapyMedical science continues to produce additional methods to improve the health of the skin, including fractional laser therapy. What is unique about this method in particular is that the outer layer of skin is not harmed, unlike in other methods. Here, there is a deeper resurfacing done, which helps to remove the scar from its roots. The top layer of skin remains in tack, rather than a wound (which is virtually what happens in other forms of acne scar removal.) Therefore, this procedure does take much less time to heal from. You will find that you can see results within a few days of having the procedure. The only drawback for fractional laser therapy is that the procedure is much more expensive and is not as readily available in some areas. Most insurance companies do not cover the costs of this type of scar removal.
What Else Do You Need To Know? There are other types of acne scar removal methods available, each with benefits. While those mentioned are considered the most likely to work at removing scars from your face, other options may be less expensive. For example, many dermatologists and doctors will recommend having a chemical peel done. This is a mild form of treatment that will help to minimize the effects of the scars and often does well at hiding them. It is also a procedure that costs much less to have done. Best of all, the mild treatment does not leave many open wounds on your skin. For some situations, such as when there are deep scars, doctors may recommend that you have surgery to remove the scars. This method is rarely used since the procedure is so invasive. Yet, for those with large and deep scars, surgery can help to repair the skin significantly.
You may also want to ask your doctor about an injection type of solution. Doctors can insert a specific material under the scar that raises the scar to the level of the surrounding skin. This method does not last long and is considered expensive. For those with acne scars, having any form of treatment may be important to you. The best way to find the treatment that is right for you is to talk with your dermatologist. During your consultation ask them about the options available and which type they would recommend for you. Most will be more than happy to point out the choices you have to a better you. |
