What Are You Options?

Acne scar removal is possible for many people.  Not only do patients have to work through the physical and emotional pain of having acne, but they then may need to deal with scars left from severe cases.  Not all acne will cause scarring, and in fact, most will not. Moderate and mild cases of acne, such as those that produce whiteheads, blackheads, inflamed pimples with white centers and similar types will not cause scarring unless they are torn open and scarring results from the sores left. Most acne scares come from severe forms of acne.  This includes acne known as nodules.  These nodules are often very painful to the individual.  They are filled with puss and can be in the form of a lump or a cyst. Sometimes they appear to be under the top layer of skin.  If you have this type of acne, you are more prone to having scarring of some level, depending on how severe it is, the treatment used and the way that you treat the acne. Often times, medications for acne for severe cases can help to lessen the likelihood of scarring, especially when the medication seems to be very helpful.  A dermatologist can help you with this medication need.  The sooner it is used, the less likely you are to have scars.

Laser Resurfacing

One of the most common types of acne scar removal is laser resurfacing.  This procedure is safe when performed by an experienced dermatologist.  You will go into the doctor's office for this treatment.  The doctor will use a high powered, very accurate laser that is run over the top of your face.  The laser does not feel painful, though it may feel hot.  It is run over the top of the scars, virtually killing the skills in this area.  These damaged skin cells will flake off and be replaced with new, healthy skin, without any scars on it.  While the laser works to remove the  outer layer of skin, the middle layer will have a tighter, healthier look to it. This causes the skin to look and feel better and free from scars.

The process of laser acne scar removal can be a bit intense.  In some cases, it may be painful, which is why many doctors do provie some local anesthesia to help numb the area before the procedure is used.  The process will not produce immediate results.  The skin will be red and can be swollen after the procedure is completed.  This will subside and within a week to ten days of the procedure, the skin will have completedly healed, providing you with fewer scars.  Laser skin resurfacing for acne scar removal is highly effective, but not perfect.  Some scars, especially those that are very deep, will cause problems for the individual and may need several applications to be completely removed.
